Pho Pasteur: A Different Kind of Comfort Food

It is easy to forget that it is spring in Boston.  The weather has been cold, gloomy and rainy.  If the weather wasn't enough, I've also been suffering from some of the worst seasonal allergies in my life.  It is understatement to say that I desperately need some comfort food to perk me up.  My friend Karen must have been reading my mind when she suggested that we meet at Pho Pasteur for lunch yesterday.

I have actually never been to Pho Pasteur before but I have heard really great things about their pho.  Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup that is served with chicken or beef and garnished with cilantro, bean sprouts, lime juice and Vietnamese basil.

I ordered the chicken pho with rice noodles and it certainly didn't disappoint.  I added generous squirts of Sriracha to my bowl to add some spice and I felt my sinuses clearing.

I happily slurped up the rice noodles and broth and already felt my spirits rising.  While pho isn't an obvious choice as comfort food, I couldn't have asked for a better meal while I caught up with one of my good friends over lunch.

Pho Pasteur is located at 682 Washington Street, Boston, MA.

Being an Emerson alum, I spent a lot of time at Pho Pasteur. If you ever have a cold, a big bowl of soup with some sriracha with definitely do the trick. Glad you finally made it!

I want to try Pho so bad! This is a good idea for summer lunch feature - but I guess you really need a cold rainy day for it!

I have never tried pho before! When I worked near Chinatown, I used to walk by there a lot...on my way to bubble tea. :-) I'll have to stop in sometime, your dish looks really good!

Oh, you've got me craving Pho too now. And you're right, this has been a really strange spring... not ideal, but I think it's getting better. Hope your allergies clear up soon!

Dave is obsessed with pho. He loves it at Super 88. There used to be a pho pasteur in the Garage in Harvard Square but it's not there anymore. I'm not sure if this and that one were owned by the same people.

I've never had Pho, and I've had a recipe to try for a while, but perhaps I should try it at a place first to make sure I like it before I go out buying all the ingredients...

Sounds yummy! Hey, have you ever done a review on any Ethiopian restaurants? There is a great one on Mass Ave across from Symphony called Lucy Cafe. We love it there. We will totally go with you :)
