This past weekend, Bret and I took a relaxing long weekend to Stowe, Vermont.
We stayed at the lovely Stowe Meadows Lodge, where Bret arranged a romantic surprise or two waiting for us!
We had some fantastic food, drank lots of wine by the fire, and just enjoyed our time together.
Since climbing a mountain is on my 30 by 30 list, Bret did some research and found a great hike for us up Mount Elmore to complete last weekend. Since the Elmore State Park was closed, we actually had to do a pretty steep walk up to the trail. From there, the hike was about five miles in total.
We climbed to a beautiful peak and took in the scenic views.
We kept going to the very top of the mountain to a really cool open fire tower. It was definitely chilly, steep and a bit icy up top, but it was definitely worth the view!
Between running 5Ks and climbing a mountain for the first time, I feel really proud of the physical activities I've pushed myself with this year. If you know me at all, you'll know that I'm more of a spa day kind of girl but I realize how great it feels to push yourself to do something that is physically tough for you.
I'm hoping to knock five more items off my list so that I can at least have finished half of my list but in the meantime, here's my latest 30 by 30 update!
1.
2. Go camping, like real camping...overnight...in a tent.
3. Pay off all of my credit card debt.
4. Attend a live WWE event (don't judge).
6. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge.
7. Go out to dinner and a movie by myself.
8. Watch all three of the original Star Wars movies.
11. Write a letter of apology to someone that I have wronged and send it.
12. Experiment with molecular gastronomy.
13. Learn to drive stick shift.
14. Learn to make my own kimchi.
15. Learn how to change a car tire.
16. Go to a shooting range.
19. Cook a three-course vegan dinner for my vegan friends.
20. Make turducken for the first time.
21. Climb a mountain.
22. Complete thirty (30) hours of community service or volunteering.
23. 24. Floss every day.
- So far I've only missed four days of flossing since January 14th!
25. Take a self-defense course.
27. 28. Fly a kite.
29. Milk a cow.
30. Participate in a city dinner crawl, which means having cocktails, appetizer, dinner, dessert and post-dinner cocktails each at a different place in one city in one night.

Congrats! So funny that this was your first hike - my dad's been dragging me up mountains since I could walk. Wine by the fire sounds so relaxing!
the hike looks like so much fun, and I'm sure it was super challenging, too. I still have a picture in my head of 5 friends walking across the Brooklyn Bridge together....;)
Good for you! And what an amazing weekend...the room looks fabulous!
30-by 30 list...great idea, keeps you on track. Shooting range is on my list too.
Beautiful scenery!
I love the pics from your hike, and I love that you are going easy on yourself with the 30 by 30. I think 30 while 30 is just as fun!
What a great bucket list and gorgeous pictures!! Congrats on crossing off yet another thing! :)
Likes like a great climb, and like you had a perfect bed to come back to and relax
I'm still loving your list updates! Glad to see another one checked off. I almost feel like I'm accomplishing something... ;)
Awww...this post is so sweet. The entire weekend sounds romantic and fun. I'm inspired by your list. Maybe I'll do a 33 by 33 list of my own for next year!
Bret is so sweet! And you guys are too cute. I'm still in for #30!
I've never heard of Mt Elmore. I want to climb it now!

way to go michelle!! looking forward to going on more hikes with you and B!
This looks like such a great weekend! Glad you were able to cross one more thing off your list.
What a great weekend! And I would be happy to help you with number 30. That sounds like a lot of fun! :-)
You've been keeping busy!! :) If you want to cross off flying a kite and Star Wars, I can loan you supplies for both. Too bad you can't do them at the same time!!
That is quite an ambitious list, and I am glad to see that you can cross one more off of it. This looks like a beautiful resort and the hike up the mountain must have been incredible.
I was just looking at this again. Can I join you for when you milk a cow? And then follow it up with ice cream? :)
Awww you have the sweetest significant other. I love those truffles. What flavor were they?
How fun, what a perfect weekend! We don't go hiking nearly often enough.
