Lulu's Sweet Shoppe

My fiance recently started a new job, which is located right by the North End.  As a result, he has been having fun exploring the North End with his new co-workers and they are all eager to give him recommendations of new places to try out.

This past weekend, Bret and I were wandering around the North End and decided to stop in at Lulu's Sweet Shoppe.  This tiny dessert shop was highly recommended by Bret's co-workers and sells cupcakes, truffles, candy and ice cream.

Since I was having dinner with some friends later that evening, I didn't want to spoil my appetite so we decided to split a cupcake.  There were a lot of varieties to choose from and we decided to go with the chocolate chip cookie dough.  Since Lulu's doesn't have any seating, we took our cupcake to the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway to enjoy it in the winter sunshine.

The yellow cake was a little dry but chock full of chocolate chips.  The chocolate frosting was light and somehow managed to capture the exact flavor of cookie dough.  Despite the dryness of the cupcake, Bret and I eagerly ate up every last bite (or crumb).

I've had a few great dining experiences in the North End recently, including a North End progressive dinner, that I'm looking forward to sharing on the blog this week.  Tell me, what is your favorite North End spot?

Lulu's Sweet Shoppe is located at 57 Salem Street, Boston, MA.

Cookie dough is my favorite flavor. I can't wait for the warmer weather. I'd like to spend more time in the North End this summer. I feel like it's a spot I've neglected the past few years. My favorite N.End haunt is Cafe Florentine. Fantastic lobster ravioli!

Looking forward to reading about the progressive dinner!

I have had more lulus cupcakes over the years than i care to count....they're a staple in the hood! have Bret get you the salted caramel next time, that cake is moist as can be.

I don't know if I've actually ever tried Lulu but whenever I've gone in the cupcakes never entice me. I do like Mama Maria for pastry, calmer atmosphere and a cool selection.

This looks like a fantastic cupcake! I haven't been to the North End in a long, long time. This post has inspired me to plan a trip out there soon!

I hate it when cupcakes are dry...in fact, I've thrown a few out because of it! However, if there is chocolate in the mix...I'll usually go ahead and eat it. Thanks for sharing, my friend. I wish I could give you some recommendations...but it sounds like you have some good ones in the comments.
