Valentine's Day Dinner Re-Cap

With busy work schedules, family obligations, wedding planning, errands, cooking, laundry....and just life, it is hard to make time for romance.  Bret and I have been together for a little over four years and we constantly have to remind ourselves to slow down and enjoy each other's company.  So for us, Valentine's Day is a perfect reminder to do just that.

I woke up on Valentine's Day to discover little Valentines (you know the kinds kids write) hidden for me to discover throughout the day - on my exercise bike, in the fridge, in my purse and in the car.  They really made me smile.  Even though Bret and I swore not to get each other gifts this year, he did send over a lovely bouquet of my favorite flowers.  I can't deny that I was secretly glad that he broke his end of the promise.

That night, we treated ourselves to a lovely steak dinner at L'Andana.  I've been there once before for my sister's 30th birthday and had a fabulous meal.  I was looking forward to this return visit.  We had a late 8:30 PM reservation.  This is a bit late for a weekday meal but it was perfect for both of our work schedules.  We arrived about a half hour early and grabbed a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar.  I, of course, went with a fabulous extra-dirty Ketel martini.

Since it was a date night, I left my camera at home but I did snap some quick photos on my iPhone:

We split the tuna tartare with mustard aioli, radish and tostadas
There was a delightful burst of lime juice throughout this dish.

I order the filet mignon a la carte off their pre-fixe Valentine's Day menu.
The steak was a tad over-cooked but the salted potato and grilled romaine
more than made up for it!

We split the apple crostata, which came with
a cinnamon crumble, vanilla gelato and caramel sauce.

A boozy decaf coffee topped with whipped cream
and shaved Godiva chocolate.

The food service was a bit slow (which is to be expected on Valentine's Day) but our server was very friendly and attentive.  Besides, we were in no rush because we just wanted to enjoy our lovely weeknight date night.

I know that everyone has busy everyday lives.  Tell me, how do you learn to stop and smell the roses...to enjoy your significant other's company...or to find some "me" time

L'Andana is located at 86 Cambridge Street, Burlington, MA.

That coffee drink sounds like the perfect end to the meal. I feel like we also have a ton going on these days, but we do find a little time to spend together almost every weeknight because Jeff and Gunner walk to the T to meet when I get there after work and then we all walk home together.

Look pretty good. BTW, are you sure there isn't a joke somewhere, you know, roses on piano are nice but...

We had seasoned and seared tuna. I lightly oil the pan and crank the heat on high and pop the well seasoned tuna in.

And some asparagus with olive oil, salt, pepper, and coated through the middle with a tomato/onion dice on top and then broiled for about 15 minutes.

That and a nice jasmine rice with lentils mixture.

The drink was Chandon Sparking Wine.

Looks like a great meal! Z and I try to cook together at least twice a week, and we almost always have dinner together at our kitchen table. Even if we have to wolf our meals down some nights, it's always nice to regroup and relax for a few minutes while enjoying a good meal (and each other's company).

Glad you enjoyed your Valentine's Day and that your fiance was smart enough to break his promise and send flowers :) I love tulips, too.

Sounds like a perfect day - and love that Bret went ahead and got your flowers, against the rules!

The flowers are really beautiful! We try to set a deadline every night, usually 9:30 or 10, where we close our laptops and watch a show together or just talk. It doesn't give us much time, but I definitely think it's important to set the time aside.

Those tulips are beautiful! I love tulips, such a sign of spring. The one upside of being long distance is that any time we do have together is spent wisely. But sometimes it makes for unnecessary pressure, trying to fit everything we want to do in a short visit.

Mmm I love L'andana! And it's only a few miles from us :) Yeah we didnt end up making any reservations until this past weekend and we almost said screw it because we couldnt find a good one. However at the last minute I found a 6:30 at Catalyst and made it, I was really wanting to go out and so glad we did. I realized we hadnt been out for a nice dinner since our trip to CA in Nov!! I miss going out for nice dinners!

Anyways...glad you guys had a nice night out! Everything looked delicious!
